   Drop your family picture into EditThisPic. Then click '+ Add reference photo' below the prompt to upload a photo of the family member you want to include. Both photos are needed: the family picture AND a reference image of the person. JPG, PNG, WebP up to 7MB each.

   Expect: Adding a family member takes 30-45 seconds. Memorial or multi-person additions may need 2-3 refinements for the most natural result.

   Attach the reference photo of your family member

   Click '+ Add reference photo' and upload a clear photo of the person you want to add. This is the key step — it lets the AI composite the real person from your reference into the family picture, preserving their likeness. Choose a photo where their face is clearly visible. For a loved one who has passed, use a photo where they look happy and natural.

   Tip: For memorial photos: a reference photo from a similar occasion (a holiday or family gathering) tends to blend most naturally with the scene.

   Describe their placement in the family

   Tell the AI where to place them: 'add this person standing on the right side of the family, next to the woman in blue, matching the warm indoor lighting.' Include their natural position in the family — parents behind children, grandparents seated, etc.

   Tip: Mention the person's usual role in family photos: 'seated in front' or 'standing in back with the other adults' helps the AI choose a natural pose.
